Children from Hasbury Primary School went on a journey around the world as part of a special multicultural week.
Each class, from Reception through to year six, embraced a different culture which was then showcased to the whole school.
Throughout the activity packed week the pupils studied all aspects about France, Australia, England and South East Asia and took part in a whole range of activities to help raise their awareness of each culture, including dressing in the country’s national dress and listening to traditional music.
Activities included maypole and bhangra dancing as well as a game of ozzy rules football.
The children also created Indian rangoli and mehndi patterns as well as preparing and serving French bread and yemen sweets.
And one class created a moving portrayal about the story of St George during the school’s collective fellowship, which was performed in front of the whole school as well as parents and members of the community.
Deputy Headteacher, Pam Griffiths, said the week had been a huge success and said all the “children, parents and staff had thoroughly enjoyed the experience”.

Hasbury Rememberance Service
May I congratulate Hasbury Primary School, Halesowen, on their Remembrance Day Service at St Margaret’s Church on November 11.
I have been to over 50 Remembrance Day Services in my life in various places, and I must say that I found this school service to be the most moving and sensitive one of them all.
War was not glorified but ex pupils from their school who were killed in the First World War were honored. The poetry, singing and presentations were delightful, and during the two minutes silence a pin dropping could have been heard.
A most beautiful, poignant Peace Banner has been produced by the pupils, and was presented on the day. Thank you to The Head Teacher, Staff, Pupils and Father Rob for a most moving and thought provoking act of remembrance and worship.

Staff and children at Hasbury Primary School marked Children’s Book Week by dressing up as their favourite book character with the likes of Noddy, Harry Potter, Dennis the Menace and Sponge Bob Square Pants, all attending school for the day.
The theme of book day focused on books which spark imagination by combining superb illustrations with magical language.
And as well as dressing up as their favourite book character, the youngsters were asked to bring in the book which had inspired their chosen outfit.
During the fun day, the children and staff were then all invited to join a parade on stage where they were able to show their book and explain which character they were.
Lynne Clarke, School Business Manager, said: “Everyone looked superb and parents had put a lot of effort into their costumes. The children especially loved the parade.”

A HALESOWEN headteacher was presented with an award for her outstanding leadership at the Labour Party Conference.
Pauline Rogers, of Hasbury Primary, was presented with the award by Schools Secretary Ed Balls and comedian Eddie Izzard, before being congratulated by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Pauline was nominated for the accolade by community campaigner Anne West whose grandson attends the school and has seen first hand the difference she has made as headteacher.
She received the award due to her outstanding leadership of the school, where her drive and enthusiasm is appreciated by the whole school community.
Sylvia Heal said: “I was delighted Pauline Rogers won this special award.
“I was pleased to be able to welcome her to the Labour Party Conference and introduce her to the Prime Minister.
“The school motto of ‘Every Child, Every Day, Happy to Learn’ highlights Pauline’s ideas about teaching and the school.”
Ageing school set for millions

Millions of pounds will be splashed out on revamping a Halesowen school to create state-of-the-art facilities for staff and pupils.
Hasbury C of E Primary is to be remodelled as part of an ambitious project to update ageing primary schools across the borough.
It is hoped work on the Hagley Road school will start within two years – five years at the very latest – and will take around a year to complete.
Cash is being given to the council by the Government – it is anticipated the borough will get £70million over the next 14 years.
Hasbury C of E is divided by a public footpath with a Victorian building on one side which houses the juniors section and the 1960s home of the infants section on the other.
Councillor Liz Walker, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said the project would unite the Hagley Road school on one site on the side of the 1960s building.
Cllr Walker said: “We will look at what we have got and what we need – rebuilding and adding bits on – knocking bits off, introducing energy saving concepts, parking and access.
“I’m very hopeful we will be able to bring it on stream as quickly as possible.
“It’s exciting times for Hasbury.”
Cllr Walker said pupils would continue being educated on the site during building work.
Hasbury was promised a refurbishment more than ten years ago but plans were shelved.
Headteacher Pauline Rogers said: “We are thrilled to hear we are in the Primary Capital Programme.
“Hasbury has a dedicated caring staff and hardworking well behaved children and really supportive parents and local community.
“We only hope this time the local authority will keep its promise and children and staff will get the major refurbishment this school deserves.”
In 2006 it was proposed Halesowen C of E would move onto the Hasbury C of E site but again plans were scrapped.
Dudley’s cash allocation is part of a £3.55 billion scheme to create a new generation of primary schools across the UK which will also see Olive Hill Primary School in Springfield Road, Halesowen, refurbished.
